Workshops and Tours


Controls Workshop

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Bethesda, MD
Monday, May 18 (All Day)

Researchers, developers and any others interested in learning about WEC modeling, control and design are encouraged to register for the Monday Controls Workshop.

Attendees will learn about modeling, device and control design, and experimental testing of wave energy converters (WECs) from Giorgio Bacelli and Ryan Coe of Sandia National Labs. To reinforce classroom concepts, attendees will have the opportunity to work with a model-scale wave energy converter in a series of experiments in the Navy’s Maneuvering and Sea Keeping (MASK) basin.

Space is limited to 20 people and is an additional cost of $85 to your ICOE registration. Fee covers round trip shuttle to and from the Marriott Marquis, coffee/tea and an afternoon snack.

Carderock Tour

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Bethesda, MD
Thursday, May 21 (Afternoon)

ICOE attendees interested in observing wave tank testing should consider attending the tour of the Naval Surface Warfare Center on Thursday afternoon.

Tour attendees will have a chance to visit the Navy’s Maneuvering and Sea Keeping (MASK) basin to witness testing conducted by Sandia National Labs on wave energy converter (WEC) control and power-take off (PTO) design.

Space is limited to 45 people and is an additional cost of $40 to your ICOE registration. Fee covers round trip shuttle to and from the Marriott Marquis.

2020 ICOE Gala

The 2020 ICOE Gala is going country casual with a Texas-style barbecue!

Join us Wednesday, May 20th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Hill Country Barbecue for a night of networking and Americana! Hill Country Barbecue combines a unique All-American ambiance with a mouthwatering menu of meats – smoked with traditional Texan Post Oak. You’ll feel like you’re in the heart of Texas with their southern brews and live music.

For $120, unwind with barbecue, unlimited beverages (soft drinks, beer, wine and margaritas), a live band and lots of dancing!

Cancellation Policy

Requests for refunds will be honored only if received in writing to on or before Friday, May 1, 2020. A $50 processing fee will apply to all canceled registrations. There will be no refunds for requests received after Friday, May 1, 2020. No-shows and onsite registrations are non-refundable.

By attending the ICOE 2020 Conference, you acknowledge that photographs and/or videos of you may be taken by our conference staff and/or hired photographers at any time. Furthermore, you grant the NHA (National Hydropower Association) permission to use photographs and/or videos of your likeness in any type of media, including websites and print publications, without compensation or reward.
